Hey Tom, I feel your pain, believe me.

Awhile ago Dan from ArmorGames uploaded our game StarShine onto Digg and it got buried even after having 80 diggs. I was extremely frustrated that a game I knew would get front page on every game portal was having issues while 50 crappy ass games were front paged on digg. When I contacted digg to find out why the game got buried, I got their standard reply on how infallible their digging algorithm is.

Myself, not willing to succumb to defeat, posted the exact same game again to digg but this time the url went to my site. When users came to my site, they were immediately redirected back to StarShine on ArmorGames. Result? The second starshine got front paged, then the next day, the original got front paged, meaning StarShine had two entries both pointing towards armorgames side by side on the front page of digg. Eat that Digg staff!

On another side note, Dan and I have found several times that a single "super user" has buried a game with just one vote even when it might have no other buries and nearly 90 or more diggs accumulated over 2 hours. If memory serves me right, Fancy Pants Adventures on Newgrounds was submitted to Digg, we monitored the blams using third party software, and sure enough a single bury was all it took despite a hundred diggs. How does FPA 2 get buried on Digg?

For these reasons and more, Digg is dead to me. Forever on my black list of sites I won't touch again.

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with Digg as a user, and it never really worked out for site promotion. The site's user power is too unbalanced. It's almost like a monarchy; The needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many.

Digg has power users that frequently and quite literally steal submissions from the "weaker" less known Digg users, and post things as if it were their own. It's something that people complain about constantly, and Digg has yet to come up with a legitimate solution for. I guess it's good that NG users are getting attention in general, which will lead new users to the site, but that's total bullshit that someone ripped your post off.

The 100 or so Digg power users countrol about 60% of the content that hits the front page. A lot relies on power users getting a hold of your stuff and Digging it.

46x46 is a pretty obscure icon size and too small to get a good looking image in some cases. Life would be much easier for submitters if every site used the standard 100x100, its infuriating to submit to game sites that require some dumb size like 142x76.

As the user icons are 100x100 I think it'd fit pretty well here for submissions too. If they were too big for front page could the be scaled down or would that end up looking ugly? Tried photoshopping what 100px logos would look like on front page, I think they look too big, what do others think? -

I am not exactly sure why but it seems like most of the internet has an anti-newgrounds bias when it comes to two sources of identical content.

Unfortunately Tom, this is what I feared for everyone using Digg to help get the word out about Newground's cartoons. Unless we make ourselves power users and digg up everything Newgrounds related we'll never really get anywhere on that site. Digg has changed so much in the last 5 years that I fear Newgrounds may have missed the boat. If your not a power user (or a friend of Kevin/Alex) you probably won't get on that front page very often.

I stinks when content is submited without permision. You know, you can submit a copyright claim on the youtube video and get it removed, or contact the origional author and tell him to stop submiting the flash content. Just don't do it for videos like YouTube Poops and stuff, since the content is modified. I've noticed egoraptor take down a few, such as the "Big Gay Dance" Sparta remix. But yeah, contact the submiters and tell them to take it down. If they don't, claim the copyright.

Digg does not care about original anything. Users get pissy when something is not linked directly. If they have to click something else (like here at NG) they get mad. It sucks but that's just they way they are.

I actually set a task to myself out one week to see how many friends i could get on Digg, so that i wasn't one of them sheep, but actually had control over if my submission got to frontpage. They deleted my account, for adding too many friends. Yet, power-users have thousands of friends and they don't get banned? Hmm.

1. Normal user posts good article. It gets no diggs.
2.Huge power user who diggs around 500 entries a day submits it and it instanly reaches front page.

if you havent noticed when u google shit the first couple of sites are E-bay, Wiki, YouTube, UrbanDictionary, Amazon, Best Buy, IGN... etc

well this is because I've found out that larger companies actually pay Google and yahoo to feature their sites first, regardless of how many people actually go to those sites. Newgrounds has become huge and i havent really found many google links here.. Yet Youtube will have one of the first links, in fact its hard to NOT get a youtube link!. i dunno many details, but i KNOW they pay google. when u use a search engine called Cuil (www.Cuil.com) you hardly ever come across u tube or amazon, or ebay! D:

Ctiger asked me to submit HotPiss!11 for him back in 2004 and i want to move the movie back to his account since it is his creation.

I came to the conclusion today that the reason behind thisis simple. On a youtube video you can basically watch any section of the video hassle free. Just click the loaded bar and your at the point you want to watch, and you can pause and yea.

NG = watch it all the way through and enjoy hit replay.

Sucks I know but it's probably that simple.

Anyway it doesn't change how much more awesome ng is than youtube.

From what Ive read here it seems to me that Newgrounds has a fairer more democratic way of good flashwork reaching the frontpage. Am I right? Or are there some artists maybe favourited a little more than they should be? How many people choose a front page here? This is not a back handed pop at Ng or Tom or anybody, I seriously dont know the answers. Whatever, most of the stuff here seems to be vote based chosen although it has surprised me sometimes at some of the crap that ends up front paged.
To me I like NG the way it is and I hope there isnt too much rushing and worrying
