Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

There are a growing number of accounts that frequently submit games... I won't call them shitty games but they are cookie cutter games that appear to just keep rolling off an assembly line. The creators are either opportunists who employ third world labor, or developers who are swapping out some graphics and exerting minimal effort to submit as many games as possible.

Now, we've always been pretty lax about SPAM and we let you guys attempt to BLAM or PROTECT it... A lot of these games manage to make it through with reasonable scores in the 2.5-3.0 range and I guess some people are enjoying them. Many of them are somewhat decent, they just happen to be re-used over and over with new themes.

Do you think games like this should just continue to exist and pile up on NG? Or should we some day face a COOKIE CUTTER GAME APOCALYPSE where they all get mass-blammed?

I also am weary of the growing trend of games where you don't know who really made it. We don't allow you to submit a "stolen" game that someone else made, but we do let companies submit games that were produced by their staff, or developers they sponsored. Stuff like this likely won't be deleted, but as the amount of submissions on NG grows, I will continue to tighten the focus on games that were made by recognizable individuals. So keep that in mind when it comes to assigning credits.

Arg, don't use words like "Apocalypse", Tom! That incites biased voting.

I think an Apocalypse Day would be grand, but only one. Just to make a point to the guys who Blam/Protect that they should be supporting the users of the site, rather than bland shit that nobody would touch when it passes judgement.

... Tom fights for the users.

You could also make it so that only a certain number of games submitted by an author will receive advertising money within a set amount of time.

(in case I explained that wrong) person submits 14 games in a week, make it so only the first 3 can receive advertising pay.

i vote the apocalypse cause newgrounds is losing its good taste in games and movies. i remember when newgrounds would always have great playable games EACH DAY and now its just once a week, for me. Now im not to picky about games but seems like flash artists are just copying the styles of games. Cause think of all the tossing games where you toss an animal and or human being into the air and they fall to their dramatic death. What im saying is that newgrounds needs to start coming up with new ideas and to stop toying and recreating old ones.

Clean-up is usually nice. I honestly don't know anybody who enjoys these embarrassing, mediocre time-pads, and I think the people behind them are alts anyway...or collaborating mass-voters trying to gain hits through the flash portal. I support their demise, because it would be an improvement on NG's part.

Make a Cookie Cutter Collection/ Category specifically for games like this. SO THAT THEY MAY FOREVER WEAR IT AS A BADGE OF SHAME!

... And also be funneled into a part of NG where noone, ever, would have to give them any attention whatsoever.

i can agree that if it passes judgement, you should prob let it stay, but yeah these guys only care bout the greens, nuke em

Give a limit to developers that they need to get a certain average score with their first three to five games so that they can actually keep submitting new ones. To make this more effective, you could use the "scout" thing that's in the Art Portal: let users scout for the developers whose games they would like to see more.

Of course it won't work with those bastardly ones that just create multiple accounts, but with the scouting system someone, who has already seen the same guy losing his permission to submit games, could just report about it.

Could be worked around to work with flash animations aswell.

I know how you must feel Tom, but I just don't think that just outright blamming games out of existence is a good thing. You just need to improve the system.

clones of clones or same games (clearly running the same code) with changed graphics should get a COOKIE CUTTER GAME APOCALYPSE :)

Apocalypse please.

Getting passed judgement for both movies and games should be at 3.00.

Maybe the ones with a score less than 4.00. The Meet'N'Fuck games aren't exactly what I would come to Newgrounds to watch, but they surely earn a lot of advert revenue for both Newgrounds and the developer. It would be good if they couldn't earn daily trophies and such, I can't help but feel they are 'stealing' them away.

We actually will be filtering out Adult rated submissions from awards in the future, which I know will cause SOME controversy but people will just have to get over it... Adult stuff always finds a crowd so it doesn't need our help to promote it.

Like other people, I believe that stolen games are definitely bad and deserve to kick the bucket.

Now, games that beginner coders are making using flash for their first time, which come out badly, we have no right to judge. Newgrounds is also a place for learning the uses of flash. If a game goes through the portal and is accepted by the audience, then there should be no trouble with it.

Furthermore, I vote that we have a small cookie cutter apocalypse, and then follow that up to some changes in the portal system. The voting power for many users is quite large, and can make much difference in the portal. Standards for some flash need to go up. Make the bar required for a blam go up a bit. Newgrounds has evolved and as life goes on, the quality of flash should be expected to increase. With Flash and it's newer versions, animation/coding is a bit easier to go about and should see stricter regulations when they reach the portal. Not enough that new animators don't see daylight in the portal, but enough so that pure garbage isn't passing the border.

TL;DR = Small apocalypse followed by some portal touch-up.

I liked that KevinBacon redesign thing you tried out last year, I say nothing makes it through the portal unless if it is submitted by Kevin Bacon.

Final Solution

Wow. I'm surprised you're just noticing this now. I vote for the apocalypse.

What about somehow putting more focus on submissions that have more NG authors?

Although, a downside to this might be more "spammy" account creation that would join together to provide "spammy" collabs. And people that submit something by themselves shouldn't be given less focus, right?

Apocalypse now get the pun ahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA ITS SO FUNNY IM SO FUNNY HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGHHH!!! But yeah do the Apocalypse thing. :*

Apocalypse wins my vote, I'm tired of seeing shitty maze games and snake re-makes =/

I agree with Apocalypse idea

I vote Blamageddon.
