Setting off a nuke like this below the ocean floor would most likely create a massive tsunami. Something you don't want forming a mile or so from the coast :/

If you REALLY want to see some global warming, just set hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil aflame - the CO2 emissions would be enormous. Whether you believe in global warming in general or not, this example is just a fact.

Well the Gulf situation just agreeds with me on the point that human really like to do big projects, but there's a point where you simply can't control it, we can fuck up with a massive oil refinery, but a nuke is something we can peeeeeeeeeerfectly handle. Not. Seriously they're trying to put down a fire by rolling all over it.
they should have used this method as a solution to the valdez.
I'm pretty sure the ecosystem is already way fucked up (or soon will be) from the oil leak.
A nuke probably won't help it much. Perhaps it will, but I'm willing to bet it'll cause different problems (maybe radiation or the whole 'nuke-the-goddamn-ocean' thing).

I don't think it would work because it's underwater and more than 1 miles deep and how do u lower a Nuke bomb in such deep waters ?
