Thats weird, I ordered from FTD at like 10:30 at night Weds. and they were delivered at 5:30 the next day for Valentines by a local florist.

Tom, from what I've heard about your schedule, I think there's a much better gift to give then "flowers."
Valentines Day is about love, not about purchasing objects or things for a certain someone. Buying Flowers is more of a "I know Valentines Day exists, so here are flowers, chocolates, and a kiss" (or whatever else you may do ;D)
I have no idea how busy your schedule is, and I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not: Did you really not have any time to hand deliver flowers to your own wife? That's really sad :(
Again, I don't know how tight your schedule is, but if I were to somehow put myself into your situation (even with out knowing much about it), I would've given myself for Valentines day. In other words, free up my schedule, a sick day, a special occassion, anything to get you away from the works.
Spend quality time with your love. Flowers are objects that are a symbol and representation of your love. Actually being there for your wife and showing her you love her is just you and your love to her.
Flowers don't hurt though :)

For future reference, you might consider <a href="http://www.2dozenroses.com">www.2dozenroses.com</a> (i'm not paid to plug this vendor). My partner used that service instead of a local florist and they arrived on time. Judging from the packing slip he placed the order on the 12th.
