Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

I personally wouldn't say no to the apocalypse option, but what in your eyes is a mere cookie cutter game could be the favorite game of another user. You simply might risk removing too much, and in turn upset users and lose them because of it.

I haven't read through any of these other comments, so there could be aspects that I'm missing, but I would think just adding a rule against submitting this kind of games in the future would be less risky, as well as less work.

Yeah, I also vote for apocalypse!

I vote for the end of the world, baby.

Well NG is about everything by everyone. Not certain things by certain people. Besides I really don't see them get front page that much, most people just down vote them. As much as I hate the games I have to say, this could lead to the eventuality of Newgrounds becoming a corporate entity in a sense. Before you know it, people will do the same things about sprites, kitty crew submissions, and other various unsightly things and modern cliches. Personally hentai is something I could really do with out, which violates an enormous taste boundary in my opinion, but I wouldn't preach the wiping out of them. To put bluntly, everything by everyone requires the creative and illegitimate.

Implement a social media type aspect of Newgrounds where you establish artists you trust and reputations based on how many people trust you. It's a huge project and would involve re-writing the portal from scratch, but that's the current best in content aggregation. So don't prevent people like this from submitting, but ensure that they will receive little attention.

Traffic is the currency you have to give, and algorithms that give it to the most deserving are needed.

Get rid of em! It's a waste and a lot of people give 3-4 scores for the effort or just because the game "works". If it's an obvious cookie cutter game, there should be more restrictions on them. I am tired of seeing ppl who dont deserve good scores making crap over and over again thinking that it is ok to not try harder or put effort into what they're doing. It also lowers the NG internet rep.

If ppl see better work, it raises standards and causes newer people to try harder as well.

i always liked knowing newgrounds was open about being run by actual people, and much like real dictatorships, there are impromptu righteous subjugations of evils.

if they really are just sweatshops turning to shit flash games rather than shit vending toys, i'd say go ahead and mass blam. i like the thought of solo 13 year olds still submitting their crappy games simply because of the lulz factor and a chance at the individual still carving out an ill-gotten piece of internet history - hopefully to improve, sort of like strawberryclock and other 'reputable' spammers.
But, if this is just soulless exploitation by the legion of foreign powers or plagiarists, fuk em. there's no heart in that.

I say we mass-blam them.

I agree 100%. For months now I've seen certain games pop their way in, and all the times I've tried to blam them and let them die they just keep piling back in. One in specific are games that involve you clicking around to find hidden items inside a picture. I've seen them submitted within the same hour and whenever I'd go on a blam/protect trip I'd see them all the time. No matter how many times these submissions are posted they just end up protected.

My suggestion? If you go on a delete rampage start with these games. I've learned that just because it's sponsored by Mochi games or Xgen Studios doesn't make it good. Well, there's my two cents. I wish you luck.

That depand on what kind of game is that,if those are the 5-years old dress up games, than yes, blam tham to hell!
however, even if newgrounds was the first in the market, there are a lot of other sites that bring us a lot of fun and indie games.
and you could make a day that will bring to laugh all those "cookie cutter games"
THAT WOULD BE NICE CAPS LOCK OH MA GOSH

I support the mass blam apocalypse for cookie-cutter games AND ACCOUNTS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED FOR OVER 5 YEARS. Seriously, some of these unused accounts have usernames that are only being wasted, where some new users would want them. Plus, it'll be a lot easier on the NG server once the hundreds of unused accounts are cleared out.

I have always thought we should cleanse spam from NG, although some of it is influential, most of it seems to be more of an insult to the original spammers than a continuation of the idea. There are a lot of cookie cutter dress up games that always pass but I don't see value in.

I vote apocalypse, or stricter blam/save rules since large groups can force anything to pass.

Also remove unused accounts so people who are active can use the names without having to add two 8's to get the name one wants...

I have been visiting newgrounds for years and as I got older less and less but once in a while I get hooked on its content. I have series I follow and artist I look forward to watching them pump out new stuff. I've seen thousands of games and movies on this site and will probably see many more.

My experience as far as seeing what the submissions are is that games that have a score of less than 2.5 are very simple and tend to do a single thing very well. As in maybe a short 3d shooter someone might have made, a game that tends to have a nice upgrade system but useless enemies and are broken. But at the same time those games might give someone an idea of what they can do in a game they make and the game they make is front page material that perhaps gets them interested in games design and they go on to a great career in the future.

Admitably games tend to be more generic here nowadays. Shoot the zombies, defend your castle, build your stats things of this nature. Is it just them generically copying something, perhaps but think about this. I put up a dart board with random things like zombies, castle, guns, axe, skill tree, level up system, and throw a bunch of darts at it. I'm sure with the random things it I will have a submission like a million other things.

As far as the cookie cutter thing those people suck. They get one idea and coast off of it for whatever reason. They will forever be mediocre. Maybe the amount of submissions one can do shouldn't be 2 a day but maybe 2 a week. This could cut it down. Perhaps have whistle blowing on cookie cutters, it's not stealing but it does kill the creative aspect of NG.

But look at bloons. It essentially is the same game but with new stuff in each one. THey do release new ones like every few months or so but the most you see is "Oh its like the last one" but it does have improvements. It isn't necessarily recycled but it is a new game.

Newgrounds as long as it exists will inspire people to be creative and it will also attract the people looking to be cool on the internet, it will attract 13 year olds looking to see a cartoon naked it will inspire someone to draw the cartoon naked. It is what it is. A portal for the inspired and the bored, the creative and the wannabe famous. As far as what to do change the limits to submission but just remember what NG is and what you wanted it to be.

my vote for it mass Apocalypse
if its the same game just over and over aging I think its justified. not sure if you could appy the same concept with movies though...

hey Tom you should make like an event out of this or something.

AlmightyHans has talked (written in fact) about "everything by everyone". it's true that everyone can post anything when it's in accordance with NG. But when it's company posting sames shit every weeks n' adds for money, i'm sorry but this is not the Newgrounds spirit.

Sucho was writtin' about teenage and 12 years old guys postin their first games n' animation. They are a thousand time better than those company eve, if it's crappy sticks figures or snake, puzzle because they do it for fun and they hope someone will like it and if it's not the case, we are here to blam it and this to say "guy, it's not good but thanks for trying doing something fun and good. Try to do better son!".

Lottah people have to consider the fact that if we don't post flash (like me) we're here to say to autors n' animators: this is good, this point is not good, what I like n' what I don't like and this, considering that animation n' programmation is hard.

But I don't want to see anymore games for adds with no personality in THE site of personality, creativity and liberty of expression and extrem provocation.

Hope this comment will help.

Hope my english is not too crappy. D:

Delete them.

They're just here trying to turn a wonderful site into their own.

We need original content MADE for this site and that's actually enjoyed by the community.

A blam apocalypse might be a good idea, so I'd give it a thumbs up.

However, I'd think it might be better to try a different idea. For example, we could go for "Approved Flash ONLY". That means that the NG Staff must view it first. Now I know this will ruin the lives of the people trying to get the Deity Whistle Level and to go up the B/P Ranks, but if users continue to submit idiotic, stolen, or Flash with a lack of effort put into it, I would suggest on the approval process. This will also lessen the amount of crappy Flashes; for example where it is rated "Suitable for Everyone" and users see a dick waving around in the air.

I know that will increase your workload but if users are going to keep doing this then this may be the best decision.

If, by chance, users continue this disgusting "Cookie Cutter Game Apocalypse" and they just make your work frustrating go for the blam apocalypse, and you can trust us users in kicking the s*** out of those Flashes!

maybe, so that people aren't overwhelmed when the genre and tagging system are started by cookie cutter crap cluttering up everything when they search games, you can place some sort of 'limit' so authors can 'showcase' their top-whatever submissions of their own to be on those pages..so if I search the platformers I don't get inundated with some 200+ submissions from some cookie cutter account made in India and instead, maybe their latest 4 submissions will pop up but not all 200 of theirs, that way less prolific artists can be given equal ground to people who shell out a new submission every few months
