Heh, I just graduated college as a web designer, lmao! we did back end programming all that good stuff, $300 - $1000 ? no... if I were asked to make something this complex I would be thinking more in 10's of 1000's lol.

Tom's right. You can copy Newground's "engine" quite easily. In fact, if you think about it, Newgrounds is just a web content portal that specializes in flash content, mp3's and bulletin board forums. Anyone with a CS degree could probably think up their own version and implement it successfully, or jerry-rig a content management system to do the same.
However, Newgrounds is much more than an interactive database. It's a online community. The sheer size of the NG community is almost staggering if you think about it. It has maintained an Alexa rating of 420/millions for quite a long while. Hundreds if not thousands of prominent artists and developers (like myself) use NG as a means of networking, gaining somewhat accurate public feedback, testing new ideas, and just plain enjoying flash development. It's taken over a decade to get as prominent and successful as it has, and that's something you can't get for a $1000 code job.

There are only two sites that people will EVER go to if they're a flash animator and are serious about getting exposure. Those are Newgrounds and AlbinoBlackSheep - and both are entirely different.
Nobody is ever going to be able to compete with Newgrounds because of that fact. Anyone who does try to create a site like that wouldn't get the traffic they need to keep the site up.
Unless they've worked on it from scratch. Nobody's going to want a clone of Newgrounds when there's a far funnier community available, is there? Now, I'll just go get the Newgrounds Chapter of Anonymous, and we'll sort this out, alright?
If they had one or two extra zeros in that budget you could sell them a modified version of the original NG code yourself. :)

The main reason newgrounds is as good as it is is because it has such a developed member base. Looking at the description, this guy seems to be impatient, so do you realy think hell have the patients to wait for a member base to grow ?

I don't personally see why you want a Newgrounds clone as it might cause people to imagrate from the original NG to the clone. In the long run I know you being Tom Fulp you probably know what your doing.

Just playing devil's advocate. As for "what is truly Newgrounds", it's the amalgamation of everything here, the good and the bad. At the core, it's just about enjoying Flash. Everyone enjoys Flash in their own way and NG reflects that. If people stopped having fun with Flash, NG wouldn't be fun anymore and we'd all move on to do other things with our lives. I don't think any one group should define what NG is, because no group is greater than the whole.
