Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

Playlists

Posted by TomFulp - May 21st, 2022

These mock-ups are almost two years old but these were some concepts for the playlist front-end:

That mobile mockup was pretty rough, the fonts in the header would be larger. Do these hold up ok?

There's a seven page doc outlining plans for the playlist system. Playlists would replace the existing Collection and Series pages (addressing all necessary functionality), have the same sort of back-links from content pages, work better as albums for music and hubs for events, have co-curators, etc. There are other items ahead of this on the roadmap but we keep chipping away.

I think these are pretty cool. Kinda gives me spotify playlist vibes but yeah these are pretty neat.

This format for the playlist looks very comfortable and easy to use, thanks for constantly working on improving the page.
Have a nice day.

I honestly really like the design and format of it!

these pics look hella fire

it looks amazing!

Freakin’ love the thumbnail of that Jam! Imagine that thumbnail being Tesla’s new logo!

i love these they look good :)

Cool!
Would be useful to have a button that allows you to search for pieces or tags directly from the playlist to add them instead of having to go to each work and add them one by one.

Would also be great to have 'next' and 'back' buttons to navigate art and animation playlists easily. I really like the idea of using playlists to make basically themed galleries, but it's a bit cumbersome when you have to load each piece one by one.

The proposed design for the playlists on mobile is pretty neat. It uses the space way better and keeps the focus on what's important instead of spreading it to the sides.

Those are actually both on the list! For events like Pico Day and Madness Day, we intend to have the option to have the list auto-populate with tags. Also want a good format for art browsing, in more places than just the playlists, too.

Das quite a nice change, great job on it!

However, could you add a button which plays all available creations in a random order? It'd be really handy for listening to music and getting the additinal suprise of what comes next, whenever I use that kind of thing on other sites it's preety cool and it ain't a good thing that NG doesn't have it.

A random button is tempting, will keep it in mind if existing nav options aren't too out of control.

It's nice and it's still definitely a staple of the existing NG formatting. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's a bit 'bulky' for the mobile version. The editor and desktop version are just fine, though.

If the mobile version was a bit more streamlined it would work nicely. Thinner headers/titles, etc.

I think they are pretty great! even tho i personally don't use playlists i think they're nice :)

A mi el formato me encanta, pero creo que no estaría mal poner un botón de reproducción aleatoria, así yo creo que podrías explorar contenidos nuevos sin saber lo que vas a ver.

They look pretty good!

Oh wow, these look great! I personally love using playlists and these mockups are really lovely, though I'd miss the old look. (I'd love to see the playlist size expanded if that's ever possible!)

Yeah, I kinda blame the 100 item limit for me not keeping up with my monthly audio playlists. Would definitely need a higher limit for events that can have 100s of entries, too.

Tom, I just had an idea.
I was thinking how chaotic it would be if someone who followed me wanted to see a list of my art since most of my lists are about art that I like and that are not mine.
And I thought about how are the youtube lists where they can be private and public.
I think it would be very convenient for people like me who want to have their art and things they like in the playlists.
I hope the idea can be useful.

I have an idea for a suggestion regarding this: Making playlists and series the same thing, as proposed by you, but having the option of naming these compilations as playlists, albums, or series on creation depending on their intent or purpose!

That’s in the plan!
