Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

Sonic Blast Man

Posted by TomFulp - 2 days ago

I saw this Sonic Blast Man art by @Karakato and it reminded me that SBM was a pretty cool game on SNES.

I like the visual feel of the fast jabs and how he does that spinning windup punch. He also has lots of fun throw moves where he flails enemies around in various ways. His jump animation is cool, likely inspired by Strider.

Overall it's a good SNES showcase with the feel of bringing the arcade home.

Ninja Warriors was another good example of this:

There's a Ninja Warriors remake that I've been meaning to check out, it looks cool:

I wonder if Sega Sues that game

I think I played that on an emulator once. It was pretty cool.

Sonic Blast Man looks like a pretty super awesome SNES game! Would love to try playing this game someday!

This game is cool.

Aww yeah, thanks for the call out! I remember stumbling on the original punching game in a local arcade in the early 2000's and even tried a few rounds. It's interesting to find out years later that the machine gave some players injuries since the padding wasn't thic enough.

i never seen this game beford !

Back when games used to be fun!
(Kidding btw)

Out of curiosity, how many SNES owners bought this game under the assumption their machine finally got the Sonic the Hedgehog games?

...I'm kind of glad this "console wars" thing was something before my time. Sounds kinda silly in retrospect to be wedded to any specific gaming corporation and miss out on all the cool games on the "other side." Kind of wish Xbox tried harder to at least give Nintendo and Sony more competition, though...

It is kinda intriguing to imagine a bunch of kids getting Sonic Blast Man for Christmas because their parents thought it was a Sonic game.

I LOVE SONIKKU BRASTAMANNN!!
i used to play the punching game at the arcade then i discovered the actual snes games so cool!! My first encounter with him was actually the crossover on the bust a move 3 cabinet version, he always had a digitized photo of the twin towers as background as a kid i thought it was mesmerizing lol

Fun fact: The original arcade game suffered a recall. The punching ball used in the machine was so lightly padded, hitting it broke people's hands.
