Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

Jabberwocky

Posted by TomFulp - February 2nd, 2010

The upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie reminded me of something that scared the shit out of me when I was a little kid. It was a TV movie version of Alice in Wonderland, with a scary Jabberwocky scene.

I decided to look it up on YouTube and was excited to find the clip!

From the get-go, it was just as creepy as I remembered... Alice returns to her home, but it's a creepy, empty home. She looks through the mirror to see her family, but they are on the other side of the glass and can't see Alice looking back at them.

Alice sits down, opens a book and begins to read about the Jabberwocky, with jaws that bite and claws that catch... Still creepy.

My heart actually starts racing as I brace myself for the inevitable terror. The lights in the house go dim... Alice turns and screams... The Jabberwocky has arrived!

And it's a guy in a dragon suit and flashing inverted colors. I can't believe I was actually scared by that once.

Trash movie remake...?

fun life you had, eh Tom?

The dragon guy looks more like someone at a night club.

What nightclubs are you going to?

why god

That girl is definite jailbait.
I wonder if Alice's parents ever consulted a therapist while their daughter was constantly hallucinating creatures and worlds with the magic of special effects from the 1980's.

reminds me of the gargoyles from fantasia. those scared me the most i think. and the black goop cloud form little nemo in slumberland...

funny how things like king kong age like crazy and no longer are scary in their original formats.

I don't want to watch....

OH MY GOD, 2 POSTS IN ONE DAY

lets see, where are the other 6 signs of the apocolypse?

Hey, don't be so negative man, they only did what they could!

I was always terrified of puppets and the like. Jim Henson's Dark Crystal scarred me for life.

Hmmm....trashy effects, I'll have to say. This goes into parts of your (not-so) eventful life Tom.

"IT" and Chucky used to scare me. :3

uh, whats the jabberwocky, is it the chesschire cat?

That is...epic!

HOLY JESUS JONES!!! i can see why you were scared by that tom :S

Don't worry tom. I'll piss pants and hold my GF in tight in your honer tonight.

Oh wow, I remember this. Movie traumatized me lol. I hate mirrors to this day

The thing about Disney I've noticed now...is their ability to adapt their marketing and entertainment to an ever growing populous of audiences. Even if it means buying out video-game titles and completely borrowing gothic inspired nostalgia.

I still can't believe that of all studios....DISNEY is going to be doing Prince of Persia.

Question : You were easily scared as a child?

What about today? Would you see horror films when going out?
Would you let your kid watch a scary film?

Would you do the ever so popular parent trick..."leaving your child alone while hiding behind the corner of the halls and letting him get all anxious and panicky?"

I still remember when I was 3 and my parents did that. >:(

For me...my biggest film horror was always Zombies. But for some strange reason...now I can't get enough zombies. I enjoy movies and games about zombies.

It's a weird reversal. Now my childhood fears are my biggest enjoyment.
