You're absolutely right. There is a point where symbiosis becomes parasitic, but I don't think NG is in any more danger of losing all its traffic than it is of banning all 3rd-party developers. I'm just concerned that Mr. Fulp's "iron-fisted... set of guidelines" might have an unintended 'cooling effect' and ultimately be more trouble than they're worth. I like Cast's ideas better than a codified set of rules that the mods would have to police.
Another alternative is to create a rating system for the "Artist News" box. Every artist would have one tread a day (or week, or whatever). If the post gets a bad rating, the artist wouldn't be allow to post again for some period of time (a day, week, month, etc.). A good rating would allow more frequent posts. The NG community is not wildly forgiving. An artist who clutters the "Artist News" box with shameless self-promotions wouldn't likely earn high scores. It would be a self-regulating system governed by the users. Isn't that what Newgrounds is all about?

Make it so that every News post has to be approved by Wade in order to be displayed on the Frontpage, and if the post is edited, then it is not shown on the Frontpage and must be approved again.. by Wade!

What about embedding a youtube video that promotes your NG contribution? That's okay, right? Because it's not actually redirecting to the youtube site. I did this once but It was still all artist news, which is all I post.
Also, I have to wait two weeks in between front page posts, but I've noticed others only have to wait a week? How does that work?
The time between posts varies based on the success / popularity of your submissions.
A YouTube embed is fine, it's when someone makes a front page post to purely say, "Come check out my cartoons on YouTube." or even worse, and it happens, "I've decided to quit NG, come check out my cartoons on YouTube." and alternatively, "Come listen to my music on SomeNewMusicSite.com." To me it's like inviting someone into your house, offering them a seat on your couch, and they just shit all over it and leave.
There are a million ways people can promote other sites on NG, but I like to think it's understandable that front page "news" shouldn't just be plugs for websites.

Yea, i know what you mean. It is irritating to see games with links to other websites and garbage written on the authors notes. Instead of saying a lot of interesting things about their work and maybe instructions, tips, thanks to people who have helped him/her make that game. Hopefully we will see less people do that.

However, I have you know that Newgrounds is the only site that I really care about. Sadly, it hardly matters being I barely have any good material to contribute - short of writing, but then my stuff would still be beaten - caged with a gorilla kinda beaten.
Well, I'm sorry that some of the better artists are more self-centered than they are community they live in right here. But, that's being a better artist for you. The only one I know that hold true to E-Patriotism is Afro-Ninja.
Still, if I ever get enough skill that allows me to have my material and news ever front-paged, I'll never link to an external site. But, that's a true of a feeble artist with a feeble mind.
