Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

I always found it pretty despicable when sponsors would organize deals to be the sole credit on a game. Of course they need to make their money on it, but it really establishes those sponsors as opportunists rather than people who actually have passion about the platform, or any concern with community. Being on the opposite side of that spectrum is why Newgrounds has so many diehard faithfuls.

The apocalypse idea makes me pretty moist. I'll be the first one to admit that I've banged out a few games just for scratch, or to remind myself that I actually still do this stuff, but anyone who makes that their everyday M.O. isn't really a good fit for NG.

Now, I don't mind people who are just amateur flash developers submitting a game or two, but the people like BELUGERIN should have their games blammed, he puts minimal effort into new games and just puts them out one after another, I get extremely irritated seeing stuff like that and those are the people who should be part of the blam apocalypse.

Some of these ideas are a little harsh. Raising the protect threshold to 3.0? That's just not fair to people who need to learn. Some people put hard work into a submission that scores 2.85 or around that.

And to those asking what harm these submissions do, it's not bandwidth or anything like that. The harm is done to the beginner flash artist who doesn't get as much recognition as they should because of all the spam. I say this a lot, but all the garbage in the most recent 50 pushes all the good stuff out. Maybe the stuff isn't good enough to get front page or daily top 5, but it deserves some praise and criticism.

How are these authors supposed to get better without the feedback they need. Back in the day when a flash passed judegement it stayed on the main portal page for days, now it's just a matter of hours, and submitting at the wrong time could result in fewer than 1000 views.

Apocalypse nao.

i choose for cool cat!

Grab your guns Gents.
It's time for a mass genocide of shitty games!

LET THERE BE APOCALYPSE!

I vote for a mass destruction because that games uses a lot of virtual-space in NG server

3.0 is too high. Walmart Siblings is awesome, it only has a 2.3

I guess I'm not quite seeing the real issue here. I'd make removing these from the Portal completely a last resort, and I don't think it'll ever come to what I believe to be last resort circumstances... IE: Newgrounds runs out of storage space...

BUT

If they're participating in the rev share program, I would totally terminate them - or at least make it so only one of each game submitted takes a cut, cutting all of the alterations/graphic swapped versions.

I see what you mean because I've been seeing alot of games from sites that I don't even think are related to newgrouds lately which makes me wonder whether the person who submitted it to the portal made it or stole it

And thus, we are approaching a tipping point for Newgrounds.

On one side, we see the movements started by it's creator, Tom Fulp. Creating snazzy new icons for contents! Moving away from copyrighted content, encouraging to use audio portal, internal music! Putting the spotlight on individual artists!

However, we do see the true side of Newgrounds. It's audience. To be frank, Newgrounds' crowd, it's fans, it's, "customers," are locked in a cultural deadlock. The attitudes and beliefs of many a user are more common with the year 2001, than the year 2011. Example: The immature ramblings on forums, the over-abundance of immature sex and drug humour themed flashes.

So what shall it be Tom? Where will you take Newgrounds.com? Will you let it stagnate, and play to your, "fans"? Those who up vote such content, who care not for, "gay faggot shit WaterLOLlies," and find Newgrounds to be a, "cool hangout zone to talk about male crap, masturbation and marijuana?"
Or will you take Newgrounds to the next level? Bring in professional content? Build up a website for artists, of all content? However, this action risks alienating a large portion of your audience.

I suggest creating A LOT of polls for users. Serious polls. Find out what your audience thinks. Find out how to fix the flash portal. Right now, it is broken. There is something wrong with it.

I do keep meaning to post more polls, although the popular opinion won't always win when it comes to the evolution of the site. We just hope the site will remain popular amongst the continued, gradual changes that have been happening for a while now.

Quite honestly, I don't know how these Cookie Cutter esque games make it through. I've seen those dress-up games in judgement, every one of them is pretty much the same in basics with differing graphics. Something so simple, even I could do it, and I'm a lazy-ass person. (It would be like id software using the DooM engine for every game they made, so they wouldn't seem any different than user-made WADs.) Maybe half the people online see it as easy "save" points because they think it's some professional Flashers (appropriate term?). I think it's just the same guy using several alts, i.e. 123dressup, 123peppy, etc. Ridiculous.

About 600 total.

WHO WOULD PLAY 600 OF THE SAME GAME?

There should be a upload limit (Not just the 2 a day, I'm talking 2 a week, which still seems pretty generous... about 100+ a year) to limit the spam of these people.

Of course the limit can be bypassed if an admin allows it.

WHATEVER JUST OPINIONING.

Be unsure of what exactly you meant here, I decided to read through the comments. After seeing Kevins comment above, all I have to say is...

Yeah do it.

Ever considered making the minimum requirement for games passing judgement higher then that of movies? Just a thought.

Just make it easier to find high quality submissions.

Yeah 2 a day is something only someone making crap would use up.
Honestly i think 1 a week should be more than enough even for people who prepare "seasons" for release.

kill them. There is absolutely no reason they should be allowed to exist. Those games are completely soulless.

Cookie cutter game industry? I need to get me a slice of that.

I like you're idea for the adult shit too. But does this include anything with an adult rating or just them nude anime doodads? I'm curious what would be a distinguishing factor and how you'd implement some kind of system for it

You already own the cookie cutter animation industry Krinks.
