Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

Well that's freaking insaaaaaaaaaaaaaaneeee!!!
Why don't they just put ads and have a service that makes sense.

i think facebook just doesn't "like" us

They just see NG as another company.

cunt

also do it NG need moar peeps

"facebook" fucking everyones lives since 2007

Moral: don't use FaceBook.

Normally I got more informed of NG using twitter, thanks to retweets that some Negrounders do. I know you can make bots to post tweets, so you can use it to post in a automatic way the daily 5 and stuff

Well not everyone saw the posts before, so the big gray area here is we don't know if it's MORE than before if you pay, or if they've bumped it down to LESS than before if you don't pay.
One thing that's easy to agree on is that they've screwed up in making that really unclear.

Man... what a bummer.

...I just tried to really think about this thing from every angle, but FUCK, MAN, this is a giant web of things to think about!
I guess they DO need to curb how much presence companies have on people's facebook walls, because otherwise it'd just be ad-spamming pandemonium (which is sad, but true), BUT gate-ing it with a popularity fee like this is a really bad solution, because it just ensures that the richest pages will be the loudest, which is what's at the heart of the problem in the first place.

On a facebook where everyone's equal, you have two choices: Have every post hit everyone ( which makes facebook terrible for socialising) or make every page hit a small percentage of their audience (which makes pages ineffective and useless). So it IS a problem, but like I said splitting that up with a $200 booster-fee is a weird, awful way to solve it.

Basically this all comes back around to my fucking genius idea, that everyone should be able to Like a max of 10 pages: then the pages you like actually MEAN SOMETHING, every post can hit every fan, I don't get spammed by pages I liked 10 years ago, and liking Newgrounds would be something I do with the deliberate intention of wearing it and getting updates. All crappy pages fade out and everyone's happy.
I AM ONLY HALF JOKING.

When I see too much of someone on my Facebook feed - for example someone who posts 20 daily affirmations every morning - I have the option to set them to Always, Sometimes or Never. So if a company ad spams, fans could set them to Sometimes or Never. Most general users probably don't realize they can do that (I don't think you can do it from the mobile app, where most people are), so maybe it does force Facebook's hand to do some filtering by default.

Eww, facebook...

Yeah it's always been that way. It's something to do with facebooks ranking system 'Edgerank' not all your fans get to see your posts, it somehow weeds out people who are not interacting much with the page. Sponsored posts are ones that pop up again and again at the top of your newsfeed so more people will interact with it. Paying is a bit much though to ensure people see it though.

Facebook.. more like... more like PAY-BUCKS, amirite?

I don't see the point. Why would I go to Facebook for NG-related stuff when I can just come here?

Some people spend all day on Facebook and don't check in at NG very often, so it's good to reach them where they are.

Yeah, those Ads are stupid. But I guess that's how Zuckerjew makes his money.

Facebook totally free!*
*not totally lolz

Facebook is a business, not a free service. This type of business model has been implemented to an extent on Youtube as well. Just the way things are going. Sucks for small businesses such as your own, but for big companies who are all facebook care about, its money well spent.

Fuck Facebook in the face!

wow, I thought it was guaranteed that you would always see posts from your 'liked' pages :/

I don't generally get every post NG makes, but its not a huge issue for me because the every third post or so that shows up on my wall is enough to remind me to click on the Newgrounds page to see what I missed. Dedicated NG fans will certainly view the Newgrounds page every once in a while if they're reminded, without it being necessary to pay for EVERY post from Newgrounds to show up on their wall.

But I'm probably assuming things here. If its the case where you're paying for certain people to even be able to have NG posts show up on their wall and not just guaranteeing that they get every post, then thats shitty. On the flipside however, if most people liking the page visit Newgrounds daily anyway, then I don't think they're missing much. I mean, most of the links come right off the front page anyway so
