Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

I usually stay in my corner and keep quiet, but despite all things this was one of the most fun events I've had with the NG community. For better or worse this place helped me out with meeting clients, best friends, and a doozy of a history with people. No regrets and I want to say thanks a whole bunch for inviting me and some of my friends. It meant the world to see them again in one party. Though to those I met at the party I'd love to be BFF's and sorry for getting in touch so late I'm still terribly shy! <3

I don't like to read, but I read this. NG has been a home to me for many years, and it's the only site besides Facebook I check daily.

I hope you had an awesome birthday and I want to see Newgrounds be even more awesome than it already is. Blaze the trail, kick some ass, and tell Youtube to look over its shoulder because this is what content creation really is!

Great post Tom, happy to hear your birthday was a success. Newgrounds was my inspiration to become a programmer, and although I haven't made anything for NG in a while the influence of seeing people breath life into code to make games has stuck with me to this day. I don't know what I would be doing with my life if it weren't for NG.

Keep on keeping on Tommy boy, the world needs Newgrounds now more than ever!

One day I'll come to Pico Day and say hi to you and the rest of the people there personally, Tom

I also had birthday a couple of days ago. Thank you, Fulp, you rule!

Your website I dare say is paramount/ necessary to animators everywhere. This website has single-handedly given me more inspiration, drive, criticism, attention, and honesty more than anywhere else. It's been an honor posting my stuff here among top-tier artists over the years, and connecting with people I'd never thought I would be connecting with. When I get a couple of bucks, I'll make sure to support you this way as well. Thank You for YOUR support to us!

Newgrounds has been a wonderful home for many artists like me and continue to still be a wonderful home! Sure, NG may have started off as something silly, but its impact is definitely immeasurable. Many of the artists it has cultivated have gone on to inspire many others so what you've done is make a very huge ripple of change.
Keep it up, and stay awesome~!

Sorry you have the messy audits and stuff to deal with. But atleased everyone got to come down and stuff :) Then again, I wouldn't really know how messy an audit can be so it probably is a little scary. Just keep going, you will get though eventually :)

Audits are emotionally draining because someone you don't know is basically going through 1-4 years of your professional life, line by line, every intimate detail, looking for ways to charge you a seemingly limitless amount of money, with penalties and interest on top. That's how it FEELS going into one, at least - plenty of auditors are nice people.

Happy birthday :)

yah thats incredibly Jarring, I wouldve been a mental wreck. Im glad you're so open with your audience though. Even one im sure is way more appreciative of what it takes to run such a site and puts a human struggle of balance front and center . We all appreciate this site , its become a artistic and spiritual lifeline for many.

This place is home.... I'll never leave.
Thank you Tom Fulp :D

I'll always upload to Ng first :3

Dude...

I'm always afraid to say these kinds of things, in fear that it may seem like some canned response but it's true whether you believe it or not...

... I needed Newgrounds... and I honestly wouldn't be where I am right now without this place. Even through the myriad of cock jocks, porn and violence, this place was a unique outlet for artistic expression. You could be the weirdest social outcast in the "real world", but you could find a place for yourself here, and find people just like you... That's fucking magical. And you let that happen.

And that happened to me exactly... I found my own place right here on Newgrounds...

As one of the people who've come back, it's an unbelievable feeling remembering what made this place so great. School and striving for a career were the reasons why I had to fade away. But while I was gone, I felt my soul fade away as well. And being able to work on something for Pico Day this year, it reignited me.

I forgot what it felt to do something because "I wanted to" rather than because "Someone told me to"... and it was awesome... And you fucking reminded me how it was Tom. I can't thank you enough...

So all I can say is... I honestly hope for the best for you. Please, NEVER stop what you're doing, for yourself and for everyone here... :)

Thanks!!! It's a great feeling when people come back around, whether to share content or even just to say hi on the blogs or forums. I think a lot of artists think they have no place here anymore if they don't have content to share, but even just making a post once every six months means the world to a lot of people here, not just me. We all like to know that NG is still in the hearts and minds of the people who came up around here.

This was a great read, Tom. Happy birthday and thanks to you and everyone else involved in the site for creating such a great community and launchpad for some many creative people.

Are they doing this because of the store or the advertising system? or both? And how much longer are they gonna do it? Do they think you calculated wrong? I hope they don't keep doing it to long because it does seem dranning and hard to go though. How many more do you think you will have to do? is it every year? Is this costing you guys a lot?? I feel so bad this has been happening. Glad Pico Day was fun though dude :)

Our original PA state audit was because of the store - we applied for a sales tax ID and they became curious about where all our previous revenue came from, because we had been making money for years without filing sales tax (it had been ad revenue and not merchandise sales). We were good on the sales tax but the audit also checked for USE tax - the state tax you owe on items purchased from out of state. We had bought a lot of servers from an out of state company that wasn't charging PA sales tax, so we got nailed on that.

Use tax is something everyone is expected to pay - even individuals. If you buy something from out of state, whether on vacation or from the Internet, you're expected to voluntarily submit the tax you would have paid if you bought it in-state. I'm just glad Amazon charges PA sales tax now.

Happy Birthday Tom :)

Thanks!

Happy Birthday! Newgrounds rocks!! :)

happy birthday tommy!
