Hi there! In case you didn't know, I created newgrounds. No, it wasn't made by some giant company - just some dumb kid who now has help. I also co-founded the Behemoth; we made Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Icon by Pegosho, banner by OmenaKettu.

Promoted Post

Posted by TomFulp - August 23rd, 2012

We sent millions of our visitors to Facebook so that we could build up 134k Facebook followers and then use Facebook to keep them informed of what's happening on NG.

Oh but wait... Now Facebook wants me to pay them to reach those users I sent their way.

That's pretty stupid. :/

Well that's fuckin retarded. Time to make groundbook.

Well, I've never really been into facebook, but I'm tickled that you've put forward our animation :D

You have to pay to make a post on your own page? That is just going to kill their users.

I've been hearing people want Zuckerberg to step down, I'm guessing Facebook is getting to big for it's shoes, or getting too corporate for it's own good.

It's free to make a post on your page, but you have to pay them if you want your followers to see it on their news feeds.

Back to email, everybody!

WTF! I hate facebook.

yeah facebook totally needs money from the users, they have none because no one will advertise on their website.
wait something isnt right here...

Cunts.

I don't think that's it works Tom, people see posts on their feed, the promoted posts are the ones you see on the right banner as more permanent posts, like ads.

I got nervous that I totally misinterpreted it but just confirmed on their FAQ. The posts do appear in the feed and not the right-hand column. It has always been the case that not everyone who follows you will see your posts, so the question is, will even less people see your post now that you can pay Facebook to ensure they do.

"A lot of activity happens on Facebook and most people only see some of it in their news feeds. They may miss things when theyâEUTMre not on Facebook, or they may have a lot of friends and Pages, which results in too much activity to show all of it in their news feed.

If you donâEUTMt promote your post, many of the people connected to your Page will still see it. However, by promoting a post, youâEUTMre increasing its potential reach so an even larger percentage of your Page audience and the friends of those interacting with your post will see it."

"All promoted posts will show in the news feeds of the people who like your Page and, when they interact with the post, to their friends. These posts will be labeled as "Sponsored" in the news feed. Promoted posts will not be shown in the right-hand column of Facebook. "

FB trying to recoup some of the monumental losses off their stock. lul

Now, isn't that selfish of them?

wowt...thats low...thats VERY LOW from facebook...

Why did people have to little Myspace die? So much freedom.

Hell, I'm glad I'm not a member of that shit. I totally agree with deathink.

....the hell?

"We can't monetize facebook. If we put up ads it won't be cool any more." -Mark Fuckerberg, back when he gave a shit.

This is kind of screwed up, but then that phrase could describe much of what Facebook has been doing in the last few years. I can't think of much reason why this would be useful to anyone, unless they are using Facebook almost exclusively to promote their product or service. Seems like a waste of money, unless you could ensure enough new traffic from the site to justify the expense. I tend to think their are less expensive ways of doing that.

This might be useful for drawing traffic for a really massive project though, where people bring money with them. Something like a $250,000+ Newgrounds-related Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Beyond that though, I don't see the New expense as justified for us.

Well, their stock did go down. Help fund Facebook, Tom.
Or, buy Facebook and make it better. :3

I've heard just about every facebook page talk about this, yet I still see every single post from all the pages I'm subscribed to. It could be because I'm only subscribed to about 10 of the people on my friends list at this point so facebook refers to pages I 'liked' to fill up my news feed...? I'm not sure, but I know that I see all the pages posts, including newgrounds.

Maybe if Facebook stock continues to fall we can push it into penny stock territory, then buy it and rename it Facefuck, an NG themed pornography site.
